What is a leasing agent?
A leasing agent is a licensed individual who is responsible for leasing out a property owned by a landlord (lessor) to a tenant (lessee) and has the authority to sign on that lessor’s behalf.
What do leasing agents do?
Leasing agents work with property owners to help find tenants for their buildings. Leasing agents are responsible for prospecting tenants to ensure that properties are filled. When a leasing agent meets with a prospect, they are to gather information about what the client’s living needs are. Certain questions pertaining to the client’s budget, how many bedrooms they would like, and location are to be asked in order to better serve their needs. Once a basic needs assessment has been conducted, the leasing agent is then responsible for showing the client the prospective properties based off of the information they gathered. Leasing agents tend to form a relationship with their clients. Most of the time more showings of different units will be needed and a reevaluation of needs may need to be conducted. After showings, it is up to the leasing agent to stay in contact with all of their clients. Forming this relationship and providing great customer service is a lot of what being a leasing agent entails. Leasing agents must also be very knowledgeable about the properties they are showing and always provide factual information. Leasing agents must always double check information if they are unsure in order to ensure all information provided is correct.
