Young America Realty released the following statement in response to Mayor Chris Koos’ request that it close common areas at The Lodge on Willow:

Young America takes seriously the public-health risks associated with the COVID-19 virus. Since the first governmental orders, Young America has embraced precautions in accordance with guidelines provided by federal, state and local health authorities.

“We are fully cooperating with the Town of Normal, including with their recent request to close certain common areas, including pools, spas, fire pits, and grill areas, of The Lodge on Willow,” said Andy Netzer, President of Young America Realty. “Further, we have maintained a third-party, security detail at that property who have received specific instructions from us to disperse crowds. We join the chorus of community voices asking the residents of our properties to consider the community impact of their personal decisions.”

ISU President Larry Dietz sent a message to ISU students yesterday expressing the University's concern in students living off-campus blatantly ignoring COVID-19 health guidelines. In his statement, President Dietz stated, " While responding to a large, off-campus gathering this past weekend, officials observed hundreds of people not following the most basic tenets of coronavirus safety—ignoring protocols for physical distancing and the wearing of face-coverings ... I cannot over emphasize how important it is that we follow all public health guidance. It is provided for the sole purpose of protecting each of us from contracting COVID-19."

Young America stands by President Dietz's statement and we are disheartened by the attitude of indifference some students project.

We implore all residents to heed the guidelines from local, state, and federal agencies in regards to social distancing and the use of face coverings. It is critical for us as a community to act responsibly during this time to keep ourselves, our friends, and family members safe. We will continue to monitor the capacity of the clubhouses and fitness centers, and ask that you do the same for personal gatherings.

Please refer to our COVID-19 alerts page at YArealty.com/Alerts for a full list of archived updates from Young America for more information.

With regard to student apartment move-out and early move-in, when a resident (or the health department) contacts our office making us aware they have tested positive, we will immediately remove that unit from Early Move In availability.  We will perform a proper turnover of the unit prior to the following resident taking possession of the unit.

TEMPORARY HOUSING REQUEST

March 13, 2020 | 2:00PM

ISU students who have applied for temporary housing from Young America have been sent specific instructions for first requesting the opportunity to remain in university housing based on their special circumstance.  The university has already recieved and filled a number of "special circumstances" requests.  Young America will still accept temporary housing requests from students who are denied housing from the dorms.

To submit a special circumstances request through ISU, please click the link below.

Special Circumstance Request

March 13, 2020 | 9:00AM

Young America is requesting that any current resident who tests positive for COVID-19 to immediately alert our office via email at [email protected]

All of our offices have also moved to a no-handshake policy until further notice in an effort to limit physical contact.

March 12, 2020 | 11:00AM

In a statement this morning, Young America announced it will offer temporary, rent-free housing to displaced dormitory residents in response to ISU’s March 11th announcement that all university operated housing will be closed until further notice.

Temporary housing will be offered on a week-by-week basis until university-owned and university-operated housing reopens, or until the end of the original 2020 spring semester.  Units offered are furnished, have high speed internet access included, and are within walking distance of Uptown Normal. Space is limited, and will be offered on a first-come-first-serve basis.

“We expect there are some students who will have difficulty returning to a permanent home, and who still need to apply themselves to their university coursework,” said Young America Realty President Andy Netzer.  “Yesterday's news was probably not ideal for everyone, and we're hopeful these efforts will help mitigate the stresses that some ISU students are experiencing”

Temporary Housing from Young America will require:

- $100 refundable security deposit
- Government-issued ID

- Copy of current University Housing contract or other proof of residency

Regrettably, Young America is unable to offer temporary housing to students who have traveled to CDC Level 3 travel advisory countries and regions.

Students who are displaced from the dorms and interested in seeking temporary housing should fill out the request form linked below.

TEMPORARY HOUSING REQUEST

March 11, 2020 | 5:00PM

Please read the public statement from ISU President Larry Dietz. As a point of clarification, apartments managed by Young America Realty are not "University-operated housing" or "University-owned apartments" and therefore remain open. Young America will continue to operate as normal.

As of today, March 11, 2020, there are no confirmed COVID-19 cases at Illinois State University, or in the Bloomington-Normal community.
